Most everyone has a wristwatch or two: one, perhaps, for casual wear, and another one for more formal wear. There are also wristwatches designed for a specific purpose, such as a diver’s watch or an aviator watch, whilst there are also basic fashion watches or trendy digital watches such as the Apple Watch. But for most people, the classic wristwatch is still the watch of choice, especially if one wants to give the right impression and have an accessory that’s wholly functional and practical. There’s nothing quite like having a good, solid wristwatch on your wrist, after all, and it beats a smartphone or other time-telling gadget. But if you are planning to buy a wristwatch, there are some prime considerations as well. The following are the top factors you should consider when choosing the perfect wristwatch for your needs.

1. The functionality

Functionality can range from very basic to complex. So, the question is, how simple or complex do you want your wristwatch to be? Fundamentally speaking, what do you want your watch to do? Do you want it to merely tell you the time, or do you also want it to provide the date or day of the week? What about other, more complicated features, such as a tide indicator or a chronograph? You also have to consider the watch’s movement, as there are two basic ones: the mechanical movement and the quartz movement. But there are also digital and analogue watches as well as smartwatches complete with touchscreens, and hybrid watches too.

You can basically choose a watch depending on the functions you want, but one of the major aspects to consider is the movement. Mechanical movement watches are available as automatic or manual winding, and they are known for their durability and value. Today, however, mechanical movement watches are quite beyond the price range of many individuals, so if you want a less costly alternative, you can go for a watch with a quartz movement. They are very accurate, and there are many less expensive models out there which can give you great value for your money and last for a long time.

2. The cost

Nowadays, there are incredibly cheap watches – but as with many other things, remember that you get what you pay for. One of the most ideal things you can do is choose a watch which goes with your budget and which seems worthy of its price, as is the case with the men’s Burberry watch collection, which are not as expensive but which look great and can last for a long time. You just have to ask yourself how much you are willing to spend for a watch – there are those who want nothing more than top-of-the-line, luxury watches which can cost more than a car, whilst there are those who are satisfied with mid-range watches which can tell them the time and look good on their wrist as well.

3. The legibility

Another factor you should think about is the watch’s legibility. How quickly and conveniently can you read the time? If you have a hard time distinguishing the marks and the minute, hour, and second hands and will just end up pointedly staring at your watch for a while, it may not be worth buying. That being said, look for a watch which you can easily read – that’s the whole point of the watch, after all – to quickly tell you the time.

4. The comfort level

Also, look for a watch which you can wear comfortably. If the watch digs into your wrist or gets caught on anything, it won’t be a nice thing to wear, will it? You also have to assess the size of the watch. For example, if you go for a big watch and you have a small wrist, it won’t look too good on you, and vice versa. Here’s one rule of thumb: always look for a watch with a proportional size to your wrist and frame. Good luck!
